Allan Wesley is a Decision Sciences instructor at MacEwan University who holds degrees in Finance, Actuarial Science and Economics. He is a recipient of Grant MacEwan’s Distinguished Teaching Award. A Fort Saskatchewan resident, Allan joined the HAMP Board in 2015 as a public member because he was interested in the process of collecting air quality data and communicating that data to the public in a meaningful way. Allan has found his work with HAMP has re-energized his passion for teaching about the application of measurement and data in the real world. When not in the classroom Allan can be found catching up on the latest financial, economics and history books.

Stephanie Kozey is a Fort Saskatchewan resident who works at Dow Chemical as an Environmental Health and Safety Regulatory Specialist. She joined Heartland Air Monitoring Partnership’s Technical Working Group in 2016 and later the HAMP Board in 2019. Since joining HAMP, Stephanie has been impressed with its professionalism and the responsible way in which HAMP manages air monitoring. In addition to learning more about airshed management and decision-making, her participation enables networking with individuals from other companies. When not at work, Stephanie enjoys hiking, golfing, gardening and yoga.

Carrie Trenholm is a public member of the HAMP Board. A Licenced Practical Nurse and pharmacy assistant, Carrie joined the Board in 2008 because she wanted to apply her chemistry, nursing and life skills in a way that would have a positive impact on the environment and her community.  Carrie feels HAMP is filled with intelligent people committed to extremely responsible air monitoring and reporting. A Fort Saskatchewan resident, Carrie enjoys reading, cooking and spending time with her family.

Megan Wesley is a civil engineer and project manager who joined HAMP’s Board in 2018. A Fort Saskatchewan resident, Megan joined the Board to get more involved in the local community. As an urban beekeeper, she also has a special interest in accessible and accurate air quality data. Megan views the Board as a great example of diverse and knowledgeable government, industry and public individuals working together for the good of the community.

Keith Purves is a Fort Saskatchewan retiree who volunteers with a variety of organizations, including HAMP where he has been a public member of the Board since 1998. Keith feels it is important to make positive contributions to the community that he lives in. In his time with the Board, he has helped HAMP develop into an air quality monitoring organization that government, industry, communities and people can trust. When not volunteering, Keith likes to paint scenery and wildlife scenes.

Darcy Garchinski is Director of Environmental Public Health for Alberta Health Services’ (AHS) Edmonton Zone. Darcy joined the HAMP Board as AHS’ representative in 2015 because he saw the value in being involved in the multi-stakeholder process to address community concerns on environmental issues pertaining to air quality. By being part of HAMP, Darcy helps AHS get a greater sense of issues and concerns that are important to the people of the region while providing information that will allow individuals to make informed decisions to better safeguard their health. Darcy enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, hunting and fishing, and watching sporting events.

Greg Poholka was raised in Edmonton and attended the University of Alberta where he studied Chemical Engineering. Twenty-four years ago Greg moved to Fort Saskatchewan and began working at Sherritt International. His current role is Director, Environment. Greg enjoys spending time in the river valley with his three kids and two dogs, whether it is skiing, cycling or paddling season.

Patrick Howe is the Executive Director of the Northeast Capital Industrial Association. His experience covers 35+ years working in the Oil and Gas industry. He is a retiree of Shell, working for some of those years at the Scotford site.  More recently, he was NWRP’s Director of Finance / CFO, working at the Sturgeon Refinery.  Patrick is an advocate for collaboration and generating improved shared outcomes by bringing together the many stakeholders, connecting with local agencies, cultivating beneficial partnerships, collaborating on effective policy, and advancing shared agendas and opportunities.  He holds an MBA from Athabasca University and his Hon. B. Comm from the University of Windsor. He is a resident of St. Albert and enjoys many “floats” paddling on the local waterways as well as walking, hiking and camping in this great province.

Dr. Danielson (B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D.) somewhat retired in 2024 following a lengthy career with Sherritt Inc., Viridian Inc., The Westaim Corporation and The Northeast Capital Industrial Association. Dr. Danielson continues to provide environmental management consulting services to clients. Dr. Danielson holds a doctorate in chemistry from the University of Alberta and has extensive experience in regulatory compliance, government relations, and regional issues management. He and his wife live in Fort Saskatchewan

Harry Benders has been Heartland Air Monitoring Partnership’s Network Manager since 2012. He brings over 40 years of direct experience in air monitoring technologies, systems and regulations to the organization. He is a former manager of Alberta Environment’s Air Monitoring and Auditing group and has been a resident of Strathcona County since 1982.

Chris Nayet has a diploma in computer engineering technology and works for Environment Climate Change Canada (ECCC) as a Senior Air Quality Technician. Since joining the Technical Working Group in 2019, Chris has found HAMP to be a well-organized, committed and professionally run organization. Networking with experts in his field allows him to build technical knowledge and learn more about air quality organizations.  He says his participation benefits ECCC in many ways including building connections and collaborations with other air quality organizations and experts, sharing information and maintaining awareness of regional air quality and initiatives. More recently, the networking with HAMP has led to the expansion of the PurpleAir monitoring network which contributes to the improvement of the AQHI forecast, warns citizens of dangerous levels of particulate matter in the atmosphere and improves people awareness to the hazard related to air pollution.

Jeff Cooper is an Air Monitoring Technologist and Project Manager for WSP Group, the firm that provides air quality monitoring operation services to Heartland Air Monitoring Partnership. As a resident of Sherwood Park, Jeff is proud of the air quality monitoring and community interaction provided by Heartland Air Monitoring Partnership. Since joining the Technical Working Group in 2012, Jeff has found the organization to be well-organized, cooperative and productive. When not at work, Jeff has taken up electronics as a hobby and enjoys hiking, camping and downhill skiing.

Gerry Mason is a Fort Saskatchewan resident and Registered Safety Professional who is HSE Manager at Oerlikon Metco (Canada) Inc. Since joining HAMP’s Technical Working Group in 2013, he has come to appreciate HAMP as a leading edge, knowledgeable and committed regional air monitoring organization. In addition to participating with others in air quality monitoring and management, Gerry feels his company’s involvement with HAMP has enabled networking and the sharing of expertise that is beneficial to Oerlikon. Gerry enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, including camping.

Karlee Searle is an Environmental Advisor at Nutrien Redwater and has been an active member of the Technical Working Group since 2020. She considers it a privilege to offer her technical expertise in managing air monitoring activities and recognizes the importance of community awareness regarding ambient air quality within the region.

Graham Tyler is an Emissions Engineer and Air Quality Specialist who joined HAMP’s Technical Working Group as an AEPA representative in 2022. Graham enjoys the collaborative nature of the TWG and the opportunity to get to know others who are concerned about air quality in the province. In particular, he has found the TWG and the relationships it fosters to be very valuable in improving the performance of initiatives such as the Designated Industrial Zone. Outside of work, Graham is a mountain biker, sea kayaker, UAV builder and pilot, and aquarist.

Nadine Blaney has been Heartland Air Monitoring Partnership’s Executive Director since 2009.  Prior to joining HAMP, Nadine was employed with Alberta Environment, working on multi-stakeholder initiatives in managing cumulative environmental effects in Northern Alberta.  Nadine holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Business Management Diploma.  She has been a resident of Strathcona County for 30 years and currently lives with her family on an acreage near Ardrossan.

Gwen is excited to return to HAMP as Communications Director and serve the Airshed community once again, having previously served in the role in 2010-13. Gwen has been a professional communicator for nearly 20 years, holding senior communication positions in a wide array of portfolios with the Government of Alberta, the City of Edmonton and public relations firm Marcomm Works. Gwen has a Public Relations Diploma and a Bachelor of Arts (English) with Distinction. She is a proud Albertan who grew up in rural southern Alberta before making Edmonton her home during her post-secondary years.

Alison Thiessen has been Heartland Air Monitoring Partnership’s administrator and financial coordinator since 2013.  Alison has a diploma in Business Administration with a focus on accounting. She also does accounting and other administrative duties for numerous other not-for-profit organizations.  Alison lives in Fort Saskatchewan.  When not working, she likes spending time with her family, reading, travelling and enjoying the City of Fort Saskatchewan’s trail system.
